Die Brillen

Korf liest gerne schnell und viel,
darum widert ihn das Spiel
all des zwölfmal Unerbetnen,
Ausgewalzten, Breitgetretnen.

Meistes ist in sechs bis acht
Silben völlig klargemacht,
und in ebensoviel Sätzen
lässt sich Bandwurmweisheit schwätzen.

Es erfindet drum sein Geist
etwas, was ihn dem entreißt:
Brillen, deren Energien
ihm den Text zusammenziehen!

Beispielsweise dies Gedicht
läse, so bebrillt, man - nicht!
Dreiundsechzig seinesgleichen
gäben erst - ein - Fragezeichen!

Therefore he detests the vast
bombast of repetitious,
twelvefold needless, injudicious.

Most affairs are settled straight
just in six words or in eight;
in as many tapeworm phrases
one can prattle on like blazes.

Hence he lets his mind invent
a corrective instrument:
Spectacles whose focal strength
shortens texts of any length.

Thus, a poem such as this,
so beglassed one would just - miss.
Thirty-three of them will spark
nothing but one question mark.

Ama Korf legger molto, e per le spicce;
perciò detesta e aborre le mollicce

salcicce appiccicose, più fïate
dai rulli compressori spiaccicate.

Per lo più bastan sei, otto vocaboli
a esaurir pensamenti sostanziosi!
Altrettanti periodi succosi
a un elminticamente interminabile

cianciar saggezza, son più che bastevoli:
Per evitar prolissità spiacevoli,

escogita il suo spirito versatile
occhiali d'un poter tale dotati,

da far di acervo sciapo un saporito
unico granellino! Uno, munito

di tali occhiali, troverà illeggibile
questo carme. Di lunghi altri cosi

trentatré sarìan d'uopo, o giù di lì,
per darne fuor, d'altre parole privo,
né più né men che un punto esclamativo!!
